My Birthday

Over the weekend, Saturday January 14 to be exact I celebrated my 33rd birthday!!! I can’t believe how old I am and how far I have come. I remember being 13 wishing I was 21. I cherish every single birthday even more. I don’t want to be any older or younger. Well I would definitely relive some of my earlier fashion moments.

Every year I usually leave it up to my husband to plan the celebration, but I give hints on what I want to do. I never feel like he EVER listens to me (lol) so while in a mall one day I mentioned I would love to try one of these new paint and sip classes. Much to my surprise not only was he listening , but he surprised me with reservations to Paint and Sip Studio NY . The experience was one to remember !!

Now I’m sure you are wondering what did I wear? I said whether rain or shine I am wearing a black long slip dress, my favorite jeans and silver booties. Of course it started to snow extremely hard before leaving the house, but I didn’t care because it was my birthday!!! The dress I am wearing is by Cotton Candy LA and its suppose to look like this:

Being the stylist that I am I felt the dress was too simple for the occasion. So I went to M&J Trimming to purchase some ribbon. I then cut the ribbon in 6 pieces and tied it to the left shoulder of the dress. The dress was also too long for flats, I decided to cut the shoulder straps and simply tie them in knots according to the proper length. The straps look unfinished which went along with the theme of the rest of the dress. One of the hottest trends of 2017 will be wearing jeans under dresses which went perfect with my outfit. To pull the whole look together I wore my hair in 3 buns added NYX Cosmic Metals Lip Cream in Electromagnetic and NYX Cosmetics Vivid Brights Liner in Vivid Halo .

Bye Bye Black Suit

Can you believe Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK?  The holidays are upon us and before we know it 2017 will be here! This has been a fantastic year thus far and I am excited for whats to come, but we have to get through the holiday season of 2016 i.e. the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the lighting of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center…just to name a few things.

In order to survive the holidays your attire to say the least should be in order. You should be comfortable, yet stylish. Leave those boyfriend jeans at home and dress up a bit. I promise you it will lift your spirits and receiving compliments always helps *wink wink*. Try a suit for instance. No, not the black corporate interview suit, but one with a fun print. Fashion rules are a thing of the past, so get out of your comfort zone. Remember suits are also meant to be worn separately as well. Trust me you will thank me later!

I had the pleasure of visiting a museum in Washington, DC. Not just ANY museum, but the National Museum of African American History and Culture . This museum was everything I thought it would be and more. I feel extremely blessed once again because tickets are sold out until March 2017! The weather was great and the exhibits were even better.

The museum starts off with the way African Americans came to the United States of American and how we’ve over came over the years. From Women’s Rights, to the Afro and soooo much more. Of course it was crowded, but I am proud of who I am and  I felt like I was living through history with people that cared about our future. I can go on and on and on, but I will let the pictures do the talking.

If you ever get a chance to go to this particular museum dress comfortably and as always fashionably. I decided to wear flats instead of sneakers and jeans. Bodysuits are back along with vintage leather jackets. To complete my outfit I wrapped kente cloth around multicolor braids.

What I Wore Apple Picking

Fall is here in full swing and you can definitely feel it. Temperatures are now in the 70’s. What better way to bring in a new season than to take a trip to Lawrence Farms and Orchards . I’ve been visiting this specific farm for years and have been going apple picking for as long as I can remember. It always takes me back to my childhood. Even as a child my first thought are ” what do I wear?” The weather can be unpredictable , so I always recommend dressing in layers.

Stripes and Gingham

Welcome to the unofficial start of Summer 2016!!!

What better way to start June off right by taking a trip to Coney Island in Brooklyn. For those of you who don’t know about this place…have you ever heard of the World Famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest? If so this contest takes place at the world famous Coney Island. As a kid and even as an adult this is the go to place in the summer. Cotton Candy, burgers, amusement park rides its a place like no other.

I decided to take a trip to this colorful place to show you how to wear stripes and gingham at the sametime. Yes, AT THE SAMETIME. Have a little fun with your wardrobe this summer. Don’t be afraid to step out of the box.

You heard this here first. I am predicting this JCrew cotton midi skirt in oversized gingham to be the skirt everyone will be wearing this summer. It is great for all body types. This skirt is long enough for the office on casual Fridays, a stroll in Central Park or to dinner on vacation.

From the moment I saw this midi skirt I knew I had to have it. Who can resist a skirt with pockets? I decided to go the unconventional way and pair it with stripes of a totally different color as the skirt.

I paired the skirt with a lemon and aqua  Saint James for JCrew short sleeve slouchy t-shirt. This t-shirt matched perfectly with my lemon stacked heel sandals.

To pull this look together I wore a beach ball bag. YES, a beach ball bag. “Why didn’t I think of this.” This bag goes perfect with this outfit because its multi colored.

Try stripes and gingham together and tag haute_hope on Instagram .

How to Have Fun Wearing Black

On this past Saturday April 30th I had the pleasure of speaking at the Dream Girl Summit 2016 on you guessed it fashion! This summit was all about empowering girls ages 10-17 on feeling beautiful. I was given the title “Fashion Guru” and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It is very important to lift up not only African American girls, but girls of all colors.

Here are some pictures from the event.

When I was asked to be apart of this summit I knew exactly what I was going to wear.. all black with a splash of color. I love the name of this blog, thus I decided to get a t-shirt made with its name.  I paired my tee shirt with a JCrew Faux Leather Pleated Midi Skirt.

The last word is Chronicles, sorry!

JCrew skirt

Springtime in NYC consists of very warm days. This wasn’t one of those days. To stay chic and honestly warm, I paired the entire outfit with my DIY army green jacket. I’ve been collecting patches for a while, but couldn’t decide when to debut my masterpiece. This summit was the perfect time to show these young ladies about having their own style.

I’m a star

To complete the entire outfit I wore my Nike Iridescent Blazer sneakers. I first saw these sneakers on Jenna Lyons the Creative Director and President of JCrew and I had to have them. (I waited on line for 2 hours, however I was #2 on the line.Determination pays off!)

I am beautiful!

The “New” Khakis

Once upon a time a girl name Hope S. Brown received her first pair of Gap Khakis, the same ones that all the famous people wore in the Gap commercials. She knew life was for the taken…until they ripped at the knee. At that time ripped Khakis were not the “in thing”. She begged her parents for a new pair and instead of just buying them she had to work for them. She worked soo hard and bought her first pair of Khakis. She felt accomplished even though she was in middle school.Whats the point of that story? Khaki pants are here to stay. However they are now in different shades and lengths. From ankle slim at  Target to classic fit at LL Bean there will never be a shortage.

I’ve had these Zara Culottes Khakis for a couple of weeks. I was waiting for the perfect day and that didn’t happen. It was 45 degrees and I said “I am wearing those Zara pants, I don’t care what the weather is…..Spring is in my heart.”

Khaki pants are like jeans, they can be worn with anything. I styled these pants with a plain grey Bow and Drape t-shirt. Don’t be afraid to have fun with your tee…roll up the sleeves. DIY with this tee coming soon.

Bow and Drape t-shirt

I jokingly called this outfit The Adult School Uniform. In keeping with this theme I used a JCrew Mens Polka Dot Bandana and tied it around my neck. It was the perfect accessory!

JCrew Polka Dot Bandana

I love color and I REALLY love JCrew jewelry. I wanted to add a pop of color. The outfit has a muted  pallet so any colored jewelry could be worn. I chose these JCrew Fun Floral and Crystal Earrings ( that is the actual title). The yellow, blush and green in the earrings really pop next to the polka dot bandana.

Oh my glasses….Warby Parker !!!

Now go out and upgrade your Khakis.

1 skirt + 3 ways

It is now February 4th, you are looking through your closet saying “I have nothing to wear.” You have a ton of holiday attire such as sequins, feathers, silk skirts and gowns , but not sure how to incorporate these items into your everyday look. Have no fear, The Hopeful Stylist is here!

“Sequin attire is only to be worn at night.” If styled right sequin can be worn during the day and at night. Here’s how: I purchased this pencil skirt in silver from Banana Republic and styled it as a day, fun weekend and evening look.

Rule #1 You can wear a t-shirt with anything. T-shirts can be dressed casually or dressed up for an evening event. If you want to dress up a t-shirt add a statement necklace.

Front Top Half

JCrew necklace|| Disney’s The Little Mermaid t-shirt

Topshop earrings

Disney’s The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie ( I always cry at the end when she leaves her daddy) to keep with the theme of dressed up, yet fun I completed this look with a pair of Vivienne Westwood by Melissa shoes. I like the big red heart detail. FYI the shoes smell like bubble gum.

Whole Outfit

Rule#2 Sneakers can be worn with everything, within reason. Always use creative judgement when trying to add a pair of sneakers with a very dressy item. Adidas Superstar sneakers are easy to pair with any outfit.

What girl doesn’t love MAC Cosmetics ! I’m wearing Flat Out Fabulous Bright Plum Matte Lipstick and it is awesome. Very creamy, long wearing and a very bold color to add an extra pop to this outfit.

Adidas Superstar

To complete this casual weekend look and for those chilly days and nights…an Adidas track jacket. I attended the NBA All Star game last year and decided to purchase this track jacket to commemorate the event.

Back (better)

Rule #3 Heels go with EVERYTHING!!! Especially with a touch of leopard. I paired the same sequin skirt with Sam Edelman two toned studded heels.

I love the subtleness of the black studs on the back of the shoes. It adds a little rockstar feel. My favorite jewelry are statement necklaces…. I styled this look with a Topshop black studded piece. Whenever you wear a chunky sweater and you want to give yourself a waist add a belt.

NYX cosmetics makes great vibrant lipsticks. The shade I am wearing is Twisted Bright Violet. Its high voltage and very moisturizing!

Have some fun and try these looks!

How to wear a romper in the winter

Thursday, January 14th was my birthday and I decided to break all the “rules.” I wore a romper and white shoes. To be more specific I wore a velvet romper and white booties. The days of wearing shorts only in the summer and no white shoes after Labor Day are over!

I LOVE a statement earring especially from J.Crew . While in Soho I stumbled upon a cute boutique and found this Honey Punch “It’s Just A Lil’ Crush Velvet Romper”. I love the description. My tights are a vintage steal! The shoes, my white Steve Madden booties were a perfect addition.

“How can I wear this outfit in the winter”….Make sure you wear tights. I live in NYC and it is now 22 degrees outside. Yes, 22. To keep warm wear a long heavy coat and layer with a hat, scarf and gloves. Stay chic and warm!

I LOVE Denim

My birthday is this Thursday January 14th! To start the celebration I’ve decided to do and wear some of my favorite things. One of my favorite things to wear is DENIM. From low end at Old Navy to premium by 3×1 I could wear denim everyday all day.

I purchased this Topshop dress in the fall and its been sitting in my closet. “I’m going to wear it, I’m going to wear it.” Finally I’ve worn it. I decided to style my denim overall dress with a collarless tuxedo white shirt. I am a fan of white shirts. You can NEVER EVER EVER have too many. Boots are huge in the winter, especially black and over the knee. As you may already know I love a statement earring. I pulled the whole outfit together with a pair of  vintage circular black and white button earrings and an oversized velvet bow barrette.InstaSize_0111120332InstaSize_0111120616
